Austin Food Drives

February 18, 2008

Hey friends, I wanted to pass along some info on upcoming Austin area food drives. Check out the info below and the upcoming dates, and then participate. This information is from the Capital Area Food Bank.

“Do you know thousands of Central Texans are in need of food assistance? You can help! Nearly 40,000 people access the services of CAFB’s Partner Agencies each week and 76% of households receiving assistance report incomes below the federal poverty level and are considered “working poor.” 1A recent study shows that in order to “afford” living in the Austin area, a family of four must earn at least $53,080 – that’s 257% above the federal poverty level.

We invite you to join our mission to help end hunger by encouraging members in your association to participate in upcoming Food & Fund Drives already happening in your area! The following opportunities occur annually across the greater Austin-area. All you have to do to make an impact is help get the word out and participate by leaving a donation of healthy, nonperishable food on your doorstep to be picked up during the opportunities below:

April 12, 2008
2nd Annual Scouting for Food, “Keep Texas Fed”

May 10, 2008
15th Annual Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger”
