Love Austin Opportunities

March 6, 2008

The city of Austin just continues to amaze me as such a beautiful city with so much to offer. Just today I came across three opportunities to love/discover/serve the city of Austin. Check it out:

Barton Springs Pool Spring Cleaning
Even if you’ve never been, you love Barton Springs Pool (and if you don’t then you should!). If you can get some time off Friday afternoon then join me and Reagan in helping to clean up. We will be there from 12pm – 2pm (and maybe longer). So don’t just be a consumer of what Austin has to offer, but come by and help out.

They have painting projects, cleaning out PVC pipes, pulling grass, trimming vegetation, scrubbing the rails, moving ropes, cleaning light fixtures, and doing some minor repair work in a kitchen. Also, four hours of volunteer service makes you eligible for membership with Friends of Barton Springs Pool.

To volunteer, you can email service@friendsofbartonspringspool.com. Also, email me or post a comment on this blog letting me know that you are joining us.

FREE Peek at the Long Center (Tours and Performances FREE)
Big thanks to the Austinist blog for this heads up. The Long Center is hosting FREE tours and performances from tonight through Sunday! Yes, free. Check out the Long Center’s website for a full schedule or the Austinist recommendations of their best bets.

Today in Austin
Today in Austin is a website that seeks to keep you up to date on what is happening in Austin today. (Or tomorrow if you look ahead. They also have some great Google Calendar tools and RSS Feeds to push the info to you. Today in Austin will help you get to know the city. Check out the events by category/neighborhood to narrow the options to you neighborhood or area of interest.
